What am I going to do?
- You will form a team of 2-3 or participate individually and create a solution for one of the design challenge prompts below.
- But remember: this is a designathon, not a hackathon; we are emphasizing design rather than functionality, so there should be NO CODING!
- In creating your solution, we want your team to follow design-thinking and its tools/methods to guide your solution. This process will include investigating different users, understanding core problems, wireframing and prototyping. Don't worry, we have workshops and other resources that will set you up to begin design-thinking!
- You will also get to hear from amazing speakers on different aspects of design and its importance in the world.
- Your final submission should include the following:
- High-fidelity prototype of the widget, add-on, or extension
- A visual of your design in the context of a device screen, application, or browser
- At least 2 flows of your prototype is required
- Visual design present on all screens
- Max 3-min demo video explaining your prototype
- Devpost writeup
The Design Challenge
Select one of the following prompts:
- Accessibility: Design an add-on, extension, or widget that improves accessibility for specific demographics of users, such as the elderly or individuals with learning or physical disabilities. Consider how your design can alleviate the challenges these individuals might face in everyday life.
- Community Engagement: Design an add-on, extension, or widget that fosters civic engagement. Consider how your design can encourage participation in community activities, facilitate communication among community members, and strengthen social bonds overall.
- Sustainability: Design an add-on, extension, or widget promoting sustainable everyday practices. Consider how your design can encourage users to make sustainable choices, reduce waste, or manage resources more efficiently.
- Or choose your adventure! Draw inspiration from your personal experiences and design an add-on, extension, or widget that can improve users' interaction with applications/software.
